Things
have gotten insane. Every moment that I catch
up with all of the quality stuff in my inbox I turn
around and it's filled the brim again. There's
no stopping the goods! It must have something
to do with the zaniness surrounding Tom Brady and
his hurt foot. Or something.
Anyhow, here is an EP for your listening pleasure.
Enjoy.
:Flowers
Forever - Black Rosary:
The press release that came with this song is one of the
best that I've ever seen, especially the part that states
how Derek Pressnall started the project "after having a
mental breakdown/woke up bored/saw the future/turned off the
lights/lost faith in humanity/went dancing/fell in
love/buried some friends/watched the news/gave up."
Good to see someone covered all the bases.
:The
Heavy Circles - Henri:
Here is a collaboration between Edie Brickell (The New
Bohemians) and Harper Simon (Paul Simon's son). To me,
those names don't seem like they would normally go to
together, but this sultry number feels seasoned and is
drenched with effortless zeal. And it's only their
first time doing anything together! Crazy. Their
self titled debut will be out on February 12.
:The
Epochs - Opposite Sides:
I don't know why, but I thought that this band had been
around for a long while. They haven't. In fact,
this is brothers Ryan and Hays Holladay's debut record.
Yet, even knowing that they still sound like they've
been doing this stuff very well for years. It's
probably why they seem to be quickly gaining a nice amount
of notoriety. Watch out for these guys later this year
out on the road with Mobius Band.
:Sir
Salvatore - Townies:
As far as I can tell this is the first of last year's blog
buzzed bands to ready a release in 2008. Granted,
Continental Breakfast could come a little faster since
it's only an EP, but that's no excuse for all those other
Elbo/Hype Machine products to slack! In any case, this
San Francisco quartet didn't change much over the last few
months. They're still doing all kinds of good when it
comes to indie pop.
:No
Kids - For Halloween:
Even with the really cold and nasty weather outside this
song still makes me want to take a nice stroll around the
park. I'd probably end up with pneumonia, but it would
be worth it to bound around with a smile to this gem's
breezy arrangement and catchy vocals. I highly
recommend that you pick up Come Into My House when
Tomlab releases it on February 19.
