Hey! Before we get to
today's goods I want to give you the heads up about a little post I made on
Wiretree over at Austin Sound. Check it out
here.
I'll be doing three of these quips week, so keep an eye out for links to
them. Now, as fate would have it I'm actual going local here at SOTO
today with some brand spanking new Ghostland Observatory. Aaron
Behrens and Thomas Turner's last album, Paparazzi Lightning, was
pretty much universally adored, so my guess is that as long as the new one
is half as good as what they've already accomplished then people will be
ready to hand over the keys to the planet. Robotique
Majestique, as it is set to be called, will make its way to store
shelves on February 26 via the duo's own imprint, Trashy Moped Recordings.
Enjoy.
:Ghostland
Observatory - Heavy Heart:
I have to admit that before I gave this a listen I was
partly convinced that it was going to be shiny piece of
radio ready nothingness. After all, the band is in
position to make that sort of jump to the mainstream.
Fortunately though, I was way off the mark. These two
are still doing whatever they please no matter how chaotic,
bizarre and wondrous it ends up, and it works like nothing
else. If you wanted more of the same then you won't be
disappointed.
Ghostland
Observatory on album is completely different than Ghostland
Observatory on stage, and this video of the band performing
Sad Sad City for an Austin City Limits DVD special
will show you precisely what I mean.
