For every Why? album that I'm super excited to hear I pretty sure that there are even more that will inevitably come out of nowhere and impress me.  For instance, today's artist.  They're called The Big Sleep, and they have a new album set to be released by Frenchkiss Records on February 19.  The trio have actually been around for awhile (they have another effort called Son Of A Tiger), but I wasn't aware of them until I stumbled across a song from the upcoming Sleep Forever.  Every year has a solid handful of quality indie/post rock, so hopefully this will be one of the first worthy of such praise.  Now, go on and spend the weekend hot and sweaty as you jump around your apartment in aimless formation to the gem below.  Enjoy.

:The Big Sleep - Bad Blood:  As much as I love post rock I think there are too many artists that end up cluttering their arrangements into noisy messes.  This isn't the case here, and it's mostly due to Sonya Balchandan's vocal work.  She puts just enough swagger in her voice to match the tone of the music, but at the same holds enough back so that it isn't sonically overwhelming.  It even makes the multi-layered arrangement come off a little clearer and more precise.  Good work.

Son Of A Tiger isn't an album that I can say I've ever had the pleasure of hearing, but this is a cool song that makes me want to check it out.  It's called Murder, and there are some nice sci-fi visuals to accompany its brooding sound.  Watch and love.
