Well, I'm not certain that
there would have been a better way to end my first week back to blogging
than with a song from what will probably be one of the better indie pop
records of 2008. Of course, I'm talking about Illinois' very own
Headlights and their upcoming sophomore effort for Polyvinyl. Tristan
Wraight, Erin Fein and Brett Sanderson have definitely been on what I would
describe as the fast-track to notoriety since I first came across by way of
the Enemies EP way back in 2005, so this could be the album that
really jumps out and captures everyone's attention. Below is the first
single from what is being called Some Racing, Some Stopping, and it's
currently set to hit store shelves on February 19. Enjoy.

- Cherry Tulips:
When I listen to this the word that comes to mind the most
is balanced. I really like how the vocals and the
arrangement, while warm and catchy in all the ways that they
should be, avoid straying too far into the realm of sugary
sweetness. Too many indie pop artists feel as if they
need to fluff it up beyond reason when there really is no
need. Indie pop with brains is a good thing!
Kudos to the band for thinking and making this three and
half minute gem an interesting listen.
Here is a
little something that was made for the song TV, which
is from the band's well crafted debut album Kill Them
With Kindness. I recommend picking it up if you
missed out on it back in 2006.
