If there is one thing that always surprises me about the first of the year it's the way people will go through great lengths to predict which artists will be huge.  Frankly, I don't understand how this can be done.  I mean, I suppose I could throw out a few guesses, but there is no way to know if an artist is going to tour or get promoted enough to get noticed.  It's a total crapshoot!  Anyways, one good thing about these "predictions" is that they do serve as a nice way for me to discover new music.  For instance, the Ting Tings.  I came across the duo earlier this week on said lists and was instantly thankful.  They're really fantastic in all of the right ways, and with an opening slot on the NME Awards Tour they just might meet the lofty expectations that have been laid upon them.  Enjoy.

:The Ting Tings - That's Not My Name:  First, imagine the Pipettes without the straight retro sound, polka-dot dresses or synchronized dancing.  Now, take that thought and apply catchy-as-hell, hip and modern to the mix and you'll have a pretty good idea of what to expect here.  Hint: it should have all added up to fun and/or 2008's first song that's worth running next door to tell your neighbor about.

I generally don't like to post the video for the song that I'm sharing, but this recorded performance of the duo on the show Later is so endearing and entertaining that I gave in.  Watch and love.
