As predicted yesterday, 2008 will be full quirk.  I can just feel it deep in the pit of my insides that this will be the year that people decide to go full throttle straight out into left field.  And who knows?  Perhaps one of the artists leading the pack will end up being Panther.  After all, the Kill Rock Stars' artist has shown a knack for the slightly bizarre in his previous efforts, and his new album, 14kt Gold, probably won't suddenly become a streamlined symbol on accessible pop considering that he went out and recruited Joe Kelly (31 Knots) to punish drum kits for him.  I fully expect it to be a raucous good time that will be different enough to warrant more than a few listens.  Mark your calendars, it'll be available on February 22.  Enjoy.

:Panther - Puerto Rican Jukebox:  Strangely, if for whatever reasons you've always wanted a lighter, breezier version of Battles then you're going to be really happy with this.  The "vocals" work more like chants of some sort, and the music will have you wondering about its sonically spunky ways equally as much as it will have your hips shaking.  Fun would definitely be an understatement.

This is the video for You Don't Want Your Nails Done, which is actually the song that introduced me to Panther.  Prepare yourself to see cardboard used in ways you can only imagine.
