Happy New Year! Are you
guys ready for another 12 months of my ramblings? I sure hope so,
especially considering that I quietly launched the film section yesterday,
which means that there will be even more content throughout 2008.
There's a good chance I might drive you insane. Or, you'll be
entertained and happy beyond belief. Whichever way it may turn out is
anyone's guess, but let's get started and see what happens.
While I was on vacation it would appear that many promoters and artists were
busy filling my inbox. So, in order to catch up I'm rolling out a
little EP today. Enjoy.

- The Winter Song:
Here is an act that's been hailed by MTV2 as an artist to
watch in 2008, they've toured with Of Montreal and Junior
Senior, and they're on a very solid label called SideCho
Records. So, apart from good press release content
what does it all add up to? The year's first catchy as
hell, quirk--filled pop song, that's what. Stand up,
shake the holiday rust off and get ready to sing-a-long.
:The
Moldy Peaches - Anyone Else But You:
Songs like this gem are part of the reason that I loved
Juno so much. Unfortunately though, the folk duo
of Adam Green and Kimya Dawson that made this lo-fi number
are no longer together, as they both moved onto solo
careers. But, if you would like a hard copy of this I
recommend picking up the soundtrack or buying the act's self
titled debut off the web. I know I certainly need to
snatch one up.
:Let's
Go Sailing - Icicles:
Well, if I'm going to give you the first quirky pop song of
the year I might as well go ahead and supply the first
quality, sugary sweet indie pop number as well. This
is from Shana Levy, whose name may sound familiar if you
were a big fan of Irving before she left in 2002 to start
this project, and it's from her effort, The Chaos In
Order, that is currently available now. Anyone
have a chance yet to hear the whole thing?
:The
Helio Sequence - Keep Your Eyes Ahead:
I honestly had never thought of this duo much before I saw
them put on an incredible set late last year when they were
opening for Minus The Bear. Since then though, I've
been anxiously waiting to hear something from their new full
length, Keep Your Eyes Ahead, that's due out at the
end of the month on Sub Pop. And, now that I have you
can count me as excited to hear it all. This is great.
:Gray
Young - Tilling The Wind:
Apart from my favorite albums of 2007 I didn't necessarily
listen to much else over the break. However, there
were a couple of songs that arrived in my inbox that I
latched onto when I gave them a quick listen, and this is
one of them. The majority of it is sweeping
instrumental indie rock, but there are a couple of moments
with vocals that balance it out nicely. Their disc,
Kindle Field, is out now.
