I'm not sure if this means I've
made it or what, but I was invited to attend a couple of charity events this
weekend. As you already know, I can't go, but because they seem like
good causes I thought that it would at least be nice to mention them for
those of you that reside in Austin.
One is the
Nike Human Race,
which you probably have heard of. Ben Harper will be performing after
the run, so whether you plan to exert any actual energy or not you may want
to think about going just for him.
The other event is the
4th Annual Labour
Of Love Festival. The whole shebang is run by Bob
Schneider, who will also be playing, and it's meant to provide some aid for
the Homeless Education And Learning Program.
Alright, with my charitable contributions out of the way, here's another
handful of quality. Enjoy.

Fantasy - The Butcher:
This will probably sound strange to most of you, but Owen
Pallett is actually one artist that could take forever
putting together new material and it wouldn't bother me.
It isn't that I don't like him or anything - He Poos
Clouds was a great record. I just tend to
appreciate him more when he's involved with other people's
projects. Still, the two EPs (Spectrum, 14th
Century and Plays To Please) that he's assembled
are on my list of efforts to look forward to. They'll
be out in the fall.
:Hello
Saferide - Anna:
This song is so sappy that if it wasn't for the casual and
endearing vocal delivery and the fact that it's as good a
Swedish pop tune as you're going to find anywhere then I
wouldn't care about it one bit. I mean, who seriously
could tolerate such nostalgic ramblings about the child that
could have been had the lover not left prematurely. I
say nobody! Probably. More Modern Short
Stories From... will arrive on September 24 courtesy of
Razzia/Hot Stuff.

Horn Rebellion - Up All Night:
Twentyseven Records has delivered some great stuff in the
past by way of Pelle Carlberg and This Is Ivy League, and
now they're trying to make me dance like a madman with this
group's infectious pop sound. Fortunately, I'm OK with
that. If I'm right this song is a little older, but
the duo (Robert and David Perlick-Molinari) are working on a
new full length to please the masses. Also, they plan
on touring a lot, so watch out for them in a town near you.
:Kuroma
- Alexander Martin:
As has been the case in the four-spot so far in this week's
EPs, this is an artist that has resided for far too long in
my inbox. It's just crazy. Anyhow, underneath
the moniker of Kuroma is Hank Sullivant, who is actually of
the Whigs and MGMT fame, so you know that the songwriting
and overall sound here is pretty good. Now, don't wait
and waiver like I did - download and love it immediately!
For now, the Paris EP is only available at shows.

- Five Bedrooms And Two Lounges:
I should probably just tell you that they're press release
comes with a quote from Garth Campesinos that says they're
"simply the best new band I've heard in ages", but that
wouldn't be any fun. Plus, I really want to mention
that this UK act sound like the second coming of Metric, and
you in no way should miss out on adoring this spunky gem.
Hopefully, they'll put together an official release soon so
that I can report back with more audible goods.
