Before you get on with checking
out this week's second EP I want you to jump over to
Austin Sound
to read a story on the Boxing Lesson's drummer, Jake Mitchell. I think
it may be one of the more stranger and upsetting things I've heard of in
2008.
Here's another five tunes. Enjoy.

- High Five:
Throughout the time that SOTO has been up I've definitely
had a penchant for sharing tracks that cover the more
light-hearted side of hip hop, and one of the acts that have
helped me do that has been New York's the Metermaids.
Well, I'm using them again. Sort of. They just
so happen to be good friends with this artist, who has a new
LP titled Close To Home due out in November.
Trust me when I say this song is a blast.

Furman And The Harpoons - We Should Fight:
I've honestly been listening to this gem on repeat.
Not only is it four minutes of the kind of energetic passion
that's a perfect way to bring the summer to a close, but it
has me thinking that this might just be how Conor Oberst
would sound like if he decided to let go and have some fun.
The band's sophomore effort, Inside The Human Body,
will be available on October 7. Mark it down!
:Tobacco
- Truck Sweat:
I don't know what happened, but lately my inbox has been
flooded with numerous acts showing off their instrumental
prowess. This one, which is actually the
Tobacco from Black Moth Super Rainbow, is rather interesting
in that manages to feel organic and natural despite being
loaded with all kinds of electronic elements. You
should certainly check it out. Fucked Up Friends
is due out October 14 via Anticon.
:The
Curse Of Company - All The Mines:
Considering that this has Dappled Cities' David Wiley
Rennick and is essentially a very nicely produced and well
written piece of pop, I can't figure out why it sat around
unloved on my hard drive for the past two months. I
blame the heat. In any case, I believe it would be a
good idea to seek out Leo Magnets Joins A Gang if
you're looking for something of quality. It's
available now on Dangerbird Records.

- Lying In The Sun:
It has been so long since I've actively thought about this
act that I had to go back and listen to 2005's Be With
to verify that it was the same group. Personally, I
think it's a bit of shame that I've missed some of the
things they've done since then, but with this hazy,
beautiful number leading the way I'm ready to pay attention
again. Stones Throw will be releasing Out My Window
at the end of this month.
