As I mentioned in the podcast
and film report this weekend (see, it does pay to listen or read other
features on the site!), the wife and I will be driving from Seattle to San
Diego from August 29 to September 14. I'm betting it will be the sort
of amazing experience that will totally prevent me from writing, so don't
expect any posts at all (not even from Noah or John Michael) throughout that
time.
Now, with that noted let's get on with this week's first of five EPs.
That's right, FIVE. Never say that I don't love you all to no end.
Enjoy.

Power - Venus And Mercury:
This little gem was posted up on You Ain't No Picasso last
week with the notice that it would soon be released on 10"
with a b-side called Mutiny. I haven't heard
the other track, but I think I may snatch up a copy of this
based solely on the reality that it's pretty much my
favorite song by them in a while, and that includes all of
the recently put out In A Cave. Actually, why
in the world wasn't this included on that LP!?

Fountain Rag - Angry Girl:
A very long time ago there was a band called Rilo Kiley that
made sweet and simple tunes that were full of life and
various interesting things. Then they disappeared.
Fortunately, there are acts like this one that are still
doing a similar sound that will surely catch your attention
and make you smile. Yesboyicecream will be releasing
SFR's It's Rag Time! on September 30. You
should get it.

Of Eagles - No One Does It Like You:
I completely missed out on the demo of this track that was
floating around last year, but even with only a couple of
listens under my belt I can see why everyone is so excited
to have this. Sure, it means that Fred Nicolaus and
Grizzly Bear's Daniel Rossen will soon deliver something
else to pour over, but it also hints at what might be a
great pop record. Ear Park is due out on
October 7 via 4AD.

Laurie - Albert:
This quiet number has been sitting in my inbox for so long
that I can't even remember the first time that I heard it.
That doesn't mean it isn't a great song, because it is.
It's just isn't something that's fit for the summer.
This gem is meant to be heard in the fall/winter from the
comfort of your home as you sit by the window and peer
outside at the world. Still, go on and give it a well
deserved shot. Meanwhile In The Park will be
released by Dangerbird Records on October 7.

By Them - The Asiatic Capital Vista:
This is a long, winding instrumental number that's full of
beautiful layers and other amazing things, so before you
give it a listen I highly recommend that you slap some
headphones on your head. Or else. Anyhow, this
snazzy tune will be available for you to have and to hold on
Signs Of Life, which will be out on November 11 via
Thrill Jockey. I seriously expect it to be one genre's
finest this year.
