For about the last week Noah (SOTO's
Saturday Columnist, if you didn't already know) has been nagging me to no
end to check out Light In The Attic's latest reissue. Normally, he
isn't so insistent, so just to mess with his head and nerves I didn't bother
giving Sixto Rodriguez's Cold Fact a listen for at least a good five
days or so. Unfortunately, the joke ended up being on me, as that
guy's long lost album is somewhere beyond brilliant, and I should not have
robbed myself of the precious time I could have spent with it. In any
case, to reclaim a little dignity I'm sharing it with all of you, and I'm
slapping the label of super highly recommended on it. Mark your
calendars (and click on the picture to read the his crazy story), Noah's
employer will be releasing the album next week. Enjoy.

Rodriguez - Sugar Man:
First of all, it took me about half of this gem's runtime to
realize that it's rather fantastic, so the fact that it was
wildly ignored in the 60s does nothing but boggle my mind.
What in the world were people thinking back then!?
Anyhow, if you can find a better psychedelic folk song that
sweeps you away and defines an era like this one then you
should go work at Light In The Attic, because I'm sure they
could use someone else who knows the best of the forgotten -
which is exactly what Rodriguez is.
As it turns
out, someone actually managed to make the exact video that I
(and maybe you?) was imagining in my head the first time
that I gave Sugar Man A listen. Give it some
attention.
