Hey!  If you're in Austin then I highly recommend getting out to see Thao Nguyen And The Get Down Stay Down at Emo's.  Sure, the Hold Steady are playing at the Parish, but what have they done for you besides make one great album after another?  Nothing!

Alright, here's an EP.  Enjoy.

:Japanese Motors - Single Fins And Safety Pins:  Vice Records went out of their way in this Orange County-based act's press release to provide a social report card of sorts (who seriously cares how often they party?), but all they really needed to state was that this gem is one of the most breezy and easy to love pieces of vintage pop to come out this summer.  Watch out for their debut on store shelves later in the year.

:Chandeliers - Mr Electric:  The majority of instrumental music that I share and prefer is of the post-rock, sweeping epic kind, so I was a little surprised that I quickly became fond of this electronic-oriented effort.  I wouldn't say that's because it's super similar to what I generally appreciate, but with numerous layers it does manage to become headphone-worthy and not just something you can only dance to.  The Thrush will be out on October 14.

:Obi Best - Nothing Can Come Between Us:  If you've previously had a good time with the quirky ways of The Bird And The Bee then I think you'll like what Alex Lilly (not sure if she is the bird or the bee) has been doing on her own time.  Vocally, it's definitely comparable to what a lot of other songbirds have done over the last few years, but it's also got a spacious sound that just shouldn't be missed.  Capades is out on August 25.

:The Silent Years - Black Hole:  I have no doubt that you've probably already had your fill of indie/folk pop this year, but I very much believe that you're going to really like this quiet number.  The percussion is done in an interesting way, there is a semi-raucous surprise that awaits you towards the end and, of course, the songwriting is loaded with a lot of nice quips.  The Globe will be released next week.

:The Ettes - Marathon:  The four songs above this one may take some of you a couple of listens to fully appreciate, but this one is just a simple garage rock tune with a big beat and a catchy guitar riff.  You honestly only need to crank up the volume and put a smile on your face.  Or, if you're feeling adventurous, do those minimum requirements in the car.  Look At Live Again Soon is due out in the coming months.
