As I was sitting around
yesterday pondering weddings, vacations, site redesigns and work it dawned
on my that I really like David Ramos. Sure, that probably doesn't
sound like too big of a deal, but considering that I almost deleted him from
my world the other day it's a little surprising (for me at least).
Anyhow, the guy has been doing some pretty incredible stuff for a long time.
At 15 he was studying latin-jazz polyrhythms and recording albums, at 24 he
was named one of the world's top progressive drummers and he has worked with
a slew of artists. In all honesty, the guy is sporting a resume that
most musicians will never come close to matching. I goofed on my first
listen, but now my ears have been enlightened. You need to seek out
his full length, This Up Here. Enjoy.

Ramos - Kings And Queens:
I must have been in the weirdest of moods when I initially
listened to this because for the life of me I can't figure
out what I didn't like about it. The vocals flow seamlessly
between soft, casual and epic, the smartly layered music is
beyond interesting and, most importantly, the songwriting
has the kind of lines that make you kick back and turn your
brain on. The damn thing literally has it all!
Hell, it even has me wondering what else I didn't take
enough time to appreciate.
I couldn't seem
to find any videos of David doing his solo thing on Youtube,
so instead I went with someone that he makes backing tracks
for, Anonymous Inc. The project is actually centered
around his brother, Ceschi, and is quite different than what
I was expecting. Be sure to watch for David's cameo
towards the end!
