I can't ever claim to have ever
been in any way, shape or form a follower of the Arctic Monkeys or the
Rascals, but the work that a single member from each has done under the
moniker of the Last Shadow Puppets is incredible. Of course, the two
that I'm speaking of are Alex Turner and Miles Kane. Both of the
22-year olds met some time ago and became friends while sitting around and
pouring over early David Bowie and David Axelrod, and now, with the help of
Owen Pallett (Final Fantasy) and James Ford (Simian Mobile Disco), they've
put together a full length based on the inspiration that came from those
listening sessions. It's called The Age Of The Understatement,
and it will be available on May 6 on Domino Records. Expect it to be
one to remember. Enjoy.
:The
Last Shadow Puppets - My Mistakes Were Made For You:
Apparently, this is a stripped down version of the original
song. I've not heard what awaits us on the album, so I
can't compare the two, but I will say that I can't see it
getting much better than this. The lyrics are rather
dark and moody as hell, so a simplistic arrangement that's
all atmosphere seems like it would be the ideal way to go.
Though, an extended and elaborate take could end up being
pretty great. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Here is the duo
performing The Age Of The Understatement live at
Avatar Studios in New York City. The video has a
decidedly documentary sort of feel, but it still does well
in making for something interesting to watch. Why
don't more acts release full songs from the studio on
Youtube?
