I
attended another TXRD game last night. Not
only was it awesome, but it was much different than
the last bout I saw. The ladies were
incredibly physical, so I witnessed quite a few
crashes, hard elbows and angry faces on the track.
It probably would have been perfect had the Putas
Del Fuego's not just barely missed out on mounting a
comeback on the Rhinestone Cowgirls.
By the way, I know you're probably wondering why in
the world I'm even mentioning these matches, but
it's only so that maybe I convince one or you to
come out sometime and watch a sport that deserves
some more love. Plus, who doesn't love having
a beer and doing something different!
Now, onto the EP! Enjoy.

Win Winter - Baker Ave:
This is a quintet out of Florida who just got done touring
with David Dondero and Travis Morrison (Dismemberment Plan).
That's pretty good company, and from what I can tell by
listening to this power pop gem it's well deserved. So
jump up, open the windows and let this one blare loud and
clear for all to hear. The band's A Brief History
Of EP is out now on 24HR Service Station Records.

- Heroes And Villains:
Admittedly, this song is a bit cheesy and unlike what I
generally post around here. However, I think that once
you buy into its quasi-emo songwriting and dramatic
arrangement then it turns into something that makes for a
pretty enjoyable listen. Sure, that will be a reach
for some of you, but I definitely recommend giving it a
shot. The You And I In The Kaleidoscope EP is
out now.
:Everest
- The Trees:
Here's an act that has one of those press releases that's so
packed with impressive stuff that you hype up them up before
you even hear a single note. Fortunately, with some
great songwriting and a lush sound they actually do live up
the fact that members of the group have been in Sebadoh, The
Folk Implosion, Earlimart, Mark Stinson, Slydell, John
Vanderslice and The Watson Twins. Their album,
Ghost Notes, will be out on Vapor Records later this
year.
:The
Jealous Girlfriends - Roboxulla:
From the moment Holly Miranda's incredible voice joins those
bouncy piano keys at the beginning you'll be hooked.
Forever. There is no escaping it. With that
being said, I'm actually left wondering why I've never heard
of this quartet before? They've been together since
2004 and have had songs used on The L-Word and
Grey's Anatomy, so it's not like they haven't done
anything outside of New York. Weird. Their self
titled full length will be out in May on Good Fences.
:King
Khan And The Shrines - Torture:
Vice just scooped up this act not too long ago, and I can
see very clearly why they would; this 12-piece is a blast.
In fact, they make such a ruckus that you should seriously
wonder about your state of mind if it doesn't make you want
to bounce around like an idiot riding the sugar high of a
lifetime. Keep your eyes open for The Supreme
Genius on June 17.
