Looking back at what I've
shared this week it would appear that I've been wildly inconsistent and all
over the place when it comes to genres. That's good, right? I'm
hoping that you might be in approval of such antics, but if for some reason
you don't like it then you may want to skip the wondrous sound of the Duke
Spirit, as they're aren't like anything that's been shared this week.
No, this quintet make the kind of alternative rock music that would make the
early to mid 90s you content with existence. I've been meaning to
spread the good word about this UK act since I saw about three songs at SXSW,
but I could never seem to get around to it. Shame. Help me
redeem myself by checking out their recently released album, Neptune.
Enjoy.
:The
Duke Spirit - Lasso:
Once you manage to get over the sheer force that is Leila
Moss' voice (this will take a little while, trust me) then
you may notice the wealth of sounds that make up the
arrangement. Personally, I'm all about the horns that
come and go, but the weird guitar solo and various other
slick production touches are pretty nice as well. This
tune comes in just short of three minutes, so don't worry if
you've found that you accidentally listened to it 19 times
in a row. That's 57 minutes of rock you probably need
anyways.
Here is another
song off of the new album called The Step And The Walk.
It's a straight up gem, so in my opinion they could of done
nothing but stand around in this video and it probably would
have still been worth watching. Trippy effects are
always nice, though.
