After hearing a good friend of
mine completely rave about one of Dizzee Rascal's performances at SXSW I
realized a couple of unfortunate things. One was that I wished I had
been able to make time to see him do his blistering rhymes live and in
person, and the other was the fact that I had never really fully explored
last year's Maths + English. Of course, as fate would have it,
the highly acclaimed effort arrived in the mail this week, and here I am now
rambling away like its brand new to the world. Definitive Jux will be
putting out the US version of the album on April 29, and whether or not you
already have a copy in your collection I highly recommend picking it up
since it has two new studio tracks and a remix by El-P. Enjoy.
:Dizzee
Rascal - Wanna Be (Featuring Lilly Allen):
Unless you're actually someone who is attempting to live a
lie as a gangster, you probably aren't going to find
anything lyric-wise that's going to inspire or blow your
mind. This just isn't that kind of song. Nope,
this gem's big bouncy beat, witty one-liners and Lilly Allen
at her most catchy are meant to slap a smile on your face
and put a shake in your hips, and if those two things don't
happen then you may want to have a few drinks and a deep
breath, because you're a little too uptight.
I'm not
entirely sure if Dizzee Rascal being chased around by white
men on horses was meant to entertain or provide a cultural
message, but either way the video is worth watching.
Though, that could simply be because Sirens is a
amazing track.
