If there was ever an artist
that I have tired on without actually consciously listening to their music
it would be Pete Doherty's Babyshambles. I think it's even gotten to
the point where if you mention Doherty I just assume that you're going to
tell me something drug related. The guy is literally a huge rock n'
roll cliché. But, with all of that being said I recently noticed that
their new album, Shotter's Nation, is due out in early October, and
curiosity lead me to see if the band was even worth talking about musically.
Well, it would appear that they are. I guess it's not too surprising,
as Down In Albion was a good record. It's just weird that
Doherty's life seems to be playing out like some sort of scripted movie
about an out of control rock star. Enjoy.

There's probably a zillion other bands right now that are
making the same kind of music, but I think it's arguable as
to whether or not any of them do it as effortlessly as
Doherty and Co. Perhaps it's the golden vocals that
populate their songs, or maybe it's the crafty songwriting
that always seems to have a line or two that is impossible
to remove from your head after you hear it. Whatever
it may be, the end result always seems to make for a good
listen, and this gem is a perfect example of that.
This is the
video for another stellar song called Fuck Forever,
which is from Down In Albion. The piece
actually has a nice little subplot that goes along with the
footage of the band playing, so it's a little more
entertaining than normal. Check it out.
