Did you guys notice all of the
possibly good movies that are coming out this weekend? There's Clive
Owen's action filled Shoot Em' Up, Russell Crowe and Christian Bale's
3:10 To Yuma remake and Will Arnett's the Brothers Solomon. I'm
actually going to be catching early screenings of each of these throughout
the week, so I'll be sure to let you know on Friday which one I recommend
seeing this weekend.
As for today, it's an EP full of great new music. Enjoy.
:Cheyenne
- The Whale:
An anthem for people who never want the summer to end. This
comment was in the press release that accompanied the song and I really
don't think there is a better way to describe it. The music and the
vocals are rather breezy and are nice to just put on in the background while
you have a good, carefree time. Count me as interested in regards to
their upcoming album.
:Manatella
- Apocalyptic Owl:
I fell in love with this song during a part of yesterday in which I was
laying on my couch watching some heavy rainfall. Now, I know that's a
little cliché, but the same thing would have happened to you given how it's
impossible to not get lost in Lauren Chase and Alissa Leonard's soft vocals
and low-fi mix of various folk-enthused sounds. Fashionable
Neighborhood is out now.
:Head
Of Femur - Leader And The Falcon:
This is a really nice piece of quirky pop that comes from the great city of
Chicago. I've never been there, but I sincerely want to go so that I
can at least lightly experience the music scene. At any rate, did I
mention how quirky this is? This trio for sure know how to structure a
song to where it's catchy and interesting. Prepare to be
pleasantly surprised.
:VHS
Or Beta - Can't Believe A Single Word:
These guys have been making good music for a long time, so when I came
across this song I expected it to be of high quality. Although, I have
to admit that I was surprised to see that they released a new album,
Bring On The Comets, this week. I didn't even know they were
working on new material! Maybe one day I'll figure out how I missed
that nugget of information.
:Kate
Nash - Mouthwash:
Because she's better, I hate to say that Kate sounds like Lilly Allen.
But, vocally the similarities are there and can't be ignored. On the
flip side, Kate is doing much more music-wise than Lilly could ever wish
for. I haven't heard all of her debut LP, Made Of Bricks, since
at the moment it's only out in the UK, but I just might import it soon so
that I don't have to wait until next year for the US release.
