Did you guys see that bizarre Cowboys-Bills game last night?  I still can't believe that what went down actually happened.  Romo and Co. literally did everything wrong that they possibly could, and yet they still somehow managed to pull out a win.  I hope they don't try the same shenanigans against New England next week, or they'll get crushed beyond all reason.  At any rate, allow me to move away from football and onto Raven & Chimes.  The indie pop act's debut, Reichenbach Falls, just hit store shelves today via Better Looking Records, who are also home to Tristeza.  I've had what little I've heard of the LP lodged in my head for the past day and some change, so my guess is that the rest of it is probably going to be rather good.  Enjoy.

:Ravens & Chimes - January:  "I'm not leaving here without your heart/And you've fallen all around me/And you'll be begging me for mercy/And I'll be kissing you deep."  At first glance this is going to sound like your normal indie pop song, especially in the way that the arrangement and the vocals are packed with an undeniable wealth of warm energy.  But when you dive into the story being shared it won't seem like everything else.  No, instead you'll be wondering if this group is the next Death Cab For Cutie.

:Ravens & Chimes - General Lafayette:  Sonically, there's a little more going on here than there was in the gem above, as each part of the arrangement seems as if it was kicked up a notch before it was put together in its own crafty little way.  Still, the songwriting and Asher Lack's stellar vocal work is what will capture your attention and keep it.  That isn't a knock on the music, because I do think it's good, I just feel that it's too hard to ignore something as dynamic and fresh as what Asher has.

On a show related side note, I saw Mobius Band at Emo's Lounge last night.  I've been wanting to see them for a long time, so as was the case with Rilo Kiley on Sunday, my expectations were kind of high.  Fortunately, the band didn't disappoint in the least bit, but for whatever reasons the venue decided to cut their set rather short, which was lame considering that it wasn't the trio's fault.  Even more bizarre is that the show ended at 1am, so there was an extra hour of time to play with!  What's fifteen stinking minutes?

Anyway, the guys told me that they'll be touring here and there for the rest of year, so if you can seem them then I would highly recommend jumping at the chance.  I think you would be impressed with how well their sound works in a live setting.

Also, Awesome Cool Dudes opened the show and Matthew Dear closed it.  ACD wasn't good or bad, they just sort of existed.  They also had on matching clothes, which was weird but it did line up well with their scatterbrained approach to everything.  As for Matthew Dear, I thought that his set was really good.  He had a big screen up that had an assortment of visuals on it that worked nicely with his dance-worthy sound.  The guy also brought his dad up on stage, so not only is he talented but he loves his parents; hard to ask for more than that.
