If you're in the mood for an
interesting story that's more than a little depressing then I would
recommend seeing Before The Devil Knows You're Dead. On the
other hand, if you think you would rather spend Friday busting a move or two
then feel free to stick it out here with Ruby Isle. They're currently
working on their full length debut for Kindercore Records, and to break
things up a bit the trio have begun covering whatever the number one song on
Elbo is. It started last week with a cover of Hello, Blue Roses'
Shadows Fall, which I pretty much hated, and this week it's the
Raveonettes. I won't be covering each song, but I wanted to point out
the trio's little experiment so you could follow along to see if they
hit or miss with their efforts. Enjoy.

Isle - Aly Walk With Me (Raveonettes Cover):
Some of my favorite cover songs are the kind where the only
thing that stays the same are the lyrics, and that is pretty
much what the guys do here. All of the
atmosphere-filled, slow placed psychedelic goodness of the
original has been thrown out in favor of what essentially
boils down to club music. Sure, it doesn't necessarily
sound too appealing, but trust me when I say that it works.
The song has a completely different sound that's aggressive
and full of energy. Too bad more covers aren't this
freewheeling with the source material.
This is a cover
of Sonic Youth's Teenage Riot, but it's from their
Into The Black EP that I mentioned way back earlier in
the year and not in any way related to what they're doing
with the Elbo project. I think the guys did a great
job with the song, however, I'm not so sure how I feel about
the video.
