Well, as soon as I mentioned that it was cold and gloomy in Austin the clouds disappeared and the temperature jumped up a few degrees, thus eliminating any desire that I had to seek out music with a more appropriate sound for the season.  Considering the weather in Texas though, there is a good chance that the mugginess will come roaring back at any time.  Until then, let's all get out of our chairs and warm ourselves up with the raucous sound of The Devil Makes Three.  The trio, which is made up of Pete (slide guitar), Cooper (banjo) and Lucia (upright bass), just had their self titled album re-mastered and re-released by Milan Records last week, and it is a must add to the holiday list if you love artists like Langhorne Slim.  Enjoy.

:The Devil Makes Three - Old Number Seven:  "I can't go a week without doing wrong."  Even though you could do it and make it work, this really isn't the type of song that you load onto your iPod and then take a stroll with.  No, it's the kind that you slap on the old record player and then proceed to sit on your back porch tapping your foot with a beer and a smile as you watch the leaves you didn't bother to rake up get blown around by the wind.  If you take one moment to do nothing but breathe then this has to been playing in the background.  It's only right.

I brought up the Langhorne Slim comparison in the introduction not only because of how their sounds are similar, but also because of how they're both a blast performance-wise.  Now, I've only ever actually seen Langhorne Slim, so I can't necessarily say for sure that The Devil Makes Three is just as good on stage.  But, in my defense the video below doesn't do much to say otherwise.
