Tonight I'm going to see a
special screening of the Mist at Alamo Drafthouse's new downtown
location, and Frank Darabont is going to be there. I'm guessing that
the film is going to be pretty good, but I'm mostly going to see if he'll
add content to my film section since I can't seem to get around to it.
Think he'll go for it? At any rate, today I have Christine Fellows,
who in just a short listen yesterday became one of my favorite
singer/songwriters of 2007. Her brilliant new album, Nevertheless,
came out this past Tuesday on Six Shooter Records, and I couldn't possibly
tell you how much it is a must own. The disc is her fourth full
length, so I clearly have some backtracking to do. Anyone out there
familiar enough to throw out a recommendation? Enjoy.

Fellows - What Makes The Cherry Red:
This song is amazing. Christine's voice and the
songwriting are incredibly captivating, so you can't help
but sit and impatiently wait on each word that is slowly
released from her mouth. I think she would sound
amazing even if she didn't have the wonderfully tense and
beautifully layered arrangement that she has here.
Make sure to give this a listen with a good pair of
headphones on!

Fellows - The Spinster's Almanac:
If you thought
that the song above was reminiscent of Joanna Newsom then
this one should remind you of Regina Spektor, which I think
is a good indicator of just how versatile Christine is.
I love the mix of bouncy piano keys and hand claps that make
up the arrangement. And, of course, the vocals are as
good as it gets. You won't need headphones for this,
just turn it up loud and smile.
