I don't normally get excited
about festivals, but I'm actually feeling pretty pumped about Fun Fun Fun
Fest this weekend. The lineup looks good, the weather has cooled down
a bit and I was able to what I couldn't do with Austin City Limits, which
was score a press pass. It should be a good time. Email me if
you're going to be around and want to meet up for a crazy round or two of
water.
Anyways, I have an EP to finish off the week since there won't be a podcast
this weekend. I hope it does the trick for those of you won't be at
Fun Fun Fun Fest. Enjoy.
BTW, Doug Freeman and I have started a new feature over at the Austin Sound
called Temporarily Austin, and our first subject was
Eric Bachmann.
Check it out!

Williams - Sunday Bloody Sunday:
I knew it wouldn't be long before someone went the way of
Radiohead and released an album with the option to pay if
you want to or not, but I'm not sure that I expected it to
be this soon. I'm also a little surprised that it was
Saul Williams (in cohorts with Trent Reznor), who in the one
time that I met him seemed like a pompous ass who could care
less about making such a statement. Regardless of all
that though, The Inevitable Rise And Liberation Of
NiggyTardust is an interesting piece of work.

Marlene - We Are All Colors:
Of all the
music that I've posted over the last year and some change I
don't think that one artist has been from Milwaukee, much
less Wisconsin. But, there is a first time for
everything and that is where Fever Marlene comes in to play.
The band is a real DIY sort of group that makes the kind of
pop music that lodges itself in your head and refuses to
leave, so if you like that kind of stuff then I would
definitely recommend checking out their new album, Civil
War.
:Wild
Sweet Orange - Wrestle With God:
I didn't know anything about these guys until recently when
they signed to Canvasback, which is under the umbrella of
Columbia Records. Once I dug around though I found out
that the band also has a new EP titled the Whale, a
full length due out next year and a tour with the Whigs and
the Broken West that is currently underway. Clearly,
the act and their southern pop rock sound are about to
become something of a known commodity amongst those in the
world of indie music, which is a good thing.
:Earwig
- Cicada:
If you're
looking at all of the songs in this EP and wondering which
one is the easiest to just pick up and love then this is it,
as there is not one thing even remotely complicated about
it. The music is straightforward rock and the vocals
are the kind that you happily sing-a-long with as you drive
around on a sunny day. It seriously doesn't get much
simpler than this, but sometimes, as is the case here, that
can be a good thing. Center Of The Earth is the
name of the band's new album.
:Old
Time Relijun - Indestructible Life!:
Catharsis In Crisis is definitely the kind of mind
fuck that will drive you insane if you aren't in the right
mood, so unless you've had a bizarre week and are ready to
go to the edge I would maybe save this tribal-esque effort
for a special day. But, if you think you're ready then
I believe you will, as I have constantly, get lost in the
swirling sounds and spastic vocals that make up this
primitive jam. Or your head will explode and ruin your
carpet. I'm not liable for either outcome.
