I'm moving to Austin in a week!  To celebrate the start of my last seven days in East Texas I bring to you a ramble on Your Black Star.  I actually did some PR work for the band when I was involved with Riot Act Media, and it just so happens that the nice guys from Kentucky selected my ticket number at a SXSW party that landed me a Rocky Horror Show 3D Picture.  In other words, we sort of go way back.  Formed in 2001 the trio has seen in a lot of success in other countries such as England, Australia and Japan, and are now they're doing all that they can to get the kids in the US on the bandwagon.  It just might happen with the release of their new album, Beasts, on July 3, and all of the touring that they will undoubtedly undertake.  Enjoy.

:Your Black Star - The Break:  This is going to be in your head all weekend.  It has a sound that feels a lot like a really good live recording, so instead of falling into the trap of being over produced the song ends up being very energetic and a bit frayed around the edges.  Of course, that sound is helped a lot by Jeremy Johnson's great vocal work that features a moody howl which sweeps back and forth with a hint of atmosphere and mid-90s rock.

I really liked the band's last album, Sound From The Ground, and the video below is a for song titled Strings, which is from it.  Be sure to check out how different it sounds when compared to the new material above.  How's that for versatility?
