It's possible that I may have experienced one of my high points of 2007 when I found a package from Light In The Attic Records sitting in my mailbox yesterday.  The label is home to one of my favorite bands, The Black Angels, and they release a lot of reissues that are pretty snazzy, so I have been anxiously awaiting something new from them.  With that said, I can't say I was expecting to receive a coloring book and an EP full of indie pop-hip hop, but that's what the crafty guys out in Seattle delivered by way of their latest signing, The Saturday Knights, and I am more than thrilled.  The self titled disc carries a sound that is full of unique retro-goodness and whether or not you like hip hop or not I am demanding that you jump below and have a good time.  Enjoy.

:The Saturday Knights - Motorin':  I mentioned indie pop-hip hop in the description above and this song is the reason why.  DJ Suspence keeps the mood light with a garage-esque arrangement that's highlighted by some nifty vocal clips, and to be honest, it works so well that you realize its stuck in your head before you even get to the first verse.  It's all clearly meant to get the EP off to a fast start and I find that it works brilliantly.  Now, don't take my ramblings about the music as an excuse to skip out on paying attention to the lyrics; there are some real gems in there.

:The Saturday Knights - 45:  This one is an absolute blast.  It carries a more streamlined hip hop structure, and the overall sound of it reminds me of something that I would hear on a Gym Class Heroes disc if Pete Wentz wasn't around and the inspiration completely revolved around making sure everybody's having the best time ever.  In the end though, you are going to find yourself smitten with the humor-filled lyrics that are guaranteed to make you smile.  For instance, the chorus of:  "I'm on the dance floor/And the DJ dropped my 45/I was so hyped that I dropped my 45/And everybody just ran ran ran."  Classic.
