I love the internet.  If you look around long enough you will inevitably find something that will make you feel like you've discovered electronic oil.  This was the case this weekend when I uncovered a song titled Real Thing (Music Is Everything).  The soulful, Madlib produced track is performed by Erykah Badu, and if that wasn't enough to peak your curiosity, the two apparently made it just because.  I know a musician's job is to make music, but it seems as if there have been a number of songs lately that have been getting released because somebody randomly fell into a giving mood.  Don't get me wrong though, I appreciate the outtakes that have been getting thrown our way.  I just would like to see these gems fully realized in the context of an album.  Enjoy.

:Erykah Badu - Real Thing (Music Is Everything):  If I was talented enough to make music my only goal would be to create songs as fun as this.  I love how the funky horns and soul-filled harmony sections are so retro that I can practically feel my sideburns extending down the side of my head.  Madlib really did a stellar job, and even though the beaming-with-confidence vocal work by Erykah will be considered by most to be the highlight of the track, I can't help but gush over what he contributed.  This is the proper way to kick start a new week.

The video below is for Sa-Ra's Feel The Bass.  Erykah isn't the focus of it but she's in it, along with Talib Kweli.  The song has a really cool sound so be sure to give it a chance to blow your mind.
