As I noted yesterday I spent a good part of the weekend clearing out my inbox and discovering hidden gems amongst all the emails.  Now, in order for me to completely catch up on everything that I uncovered I bring to you one final email nugget by the name of Cassette.  Devin Smith started the band as a bedroom project in 2005 and after one 35 track album titled Beautiful California and one show with Awesome New Republic he laid Cassette to rest.  That is of course until the company he works for, Honor Roll, Inc., decided that his old bedroom project needed a proper re-release and a national tour to help spread the good word.  Enjoy the short but brilliant songs below and be sure to jump over to Atomisk Records for other Devin projects if you like what you hear.

:Cassette - Ladybug:  First of all, this song is only 52 seconds long.  Secondly, I guarantee that you will find every moment of it's short runtime overly enjoyable.  Prog pop can be tricky to pull off but Devin makes it seem effortless with a lush sound that feels progressive but never loses its pop sensibility.  Take a second (literally) to check this out, you won't be disappointed.

:Cassette - Shaved:  This doesn't feel as intricate as Ladybug but it is a whopping 19 seconds longer.  With that extra time Devin slows things down with a lounge-esque arrangement and softens up the vocals in a way that makes me want to gaze out of a window.  I guess when you write songs this short and you pack 35 of them on an album it allows you to take your sound wherever you please.  This one comes highly recommend as well.
