One of the coolest things about SXSW is all of the free stuff that you come across as you wander around 6th Street.  Outside of free shirts my favorite item to pick up is all the random CDs that are scattered about.  For instance I found Vice's Guide To Bands comp on a pool table at some bar and ended up with new songs from LCD Soundsystem, Dungen and Sage Francis, who is is the subject of my ramble today.  I had been anxiously waiting to hear something new from my favorite hip hop artist and Vice totally delivered with a track that I have had stuck in my head since I first heard it last Thursday.  Human The Death Dance drops on May 8 and Sage will be hitting the road soon after that with Buck 65 and Alias in support of it.  I'm already too excited.

:Sage Francis feat Jolie Holland - Got Up This Morning:  I have always appreciated Sage's willingness to use music that has some layers and not just a crazy beat.  This spaghetti western-esque song has a spiffy little acoustic guitar riff that is repeated throughout the song as a simplistic beat comes and goes depending on the line being delivered.  Vocally, Sage and Jolie sound great together.  The way Jolie's delivery is drawn out serves as a good compliment to Sage, who is as good vocally and lyrically as he as ever been.  It would be hard for anyone to not love this song.

I believe that during the making of Human The Death Dance Sage must have become a bit stir crazy because he made one bizarre video staring a possessed refrigerator, Evel Knievel and himself.  Let the laughter ensue.
