Well my friends SXSW officially starts tomorrow so for the rest of the week expect to be able to drop by for a whole slew of pictures and random comments.  I am actually going to be getting the craziness started tonight with a show put on by the Austin Sound that features The Glass Family, Zykos and some other great bands; it should be a good time.  As for today I have the Dying Californian (formerly Nuzzle back in the 90's) who are getting ready to release a new album for Turn Records titled Coarsegold.  I had never heard of them until they showed up in my mailbox last week but they won me over quickly with their mix of folk, country and indie rock.  Enjoy.

:The Dying Californian - Second Shadow:  I think that most of this album is more folk geared than anything, so this Pavement-esque gem serves as a good way to switch things up for the listener.  Nate Dalton really shines in this with a fantastic earthy voice that will demand your attention throughout every second of the six and half minute runtime.  Feel free to get lost in this.

:The Dying Californian - Ghosts Of Dreams:  I mentioned how folk geared that I felt the new effort was and this song is a prime example of that.  Nate's voice carries a lot of emotion and there is an interesting arrangement that is all at once: somber, mournful and full of hope.  It certainly all comes together for what is otherwise an exhausting listen, but I think that in the end you will find it worthwhile.
