Alright, who out there thought that this week's episode of Lost was kind of pointless?  I mean it was nice and all that Hurley was able to return to his dude-slinging ways, but all it did was make me think that the writers aren't doing too good of a job when it comes to giving viewers answers.  Sadly, I don't have any of the answers to the mysteries of Lost, but I do have some highly acclaimed music from EV Records.  The Chicago-based label has been around since 2001 and has consistently been putting out some of the city's finest hip-hop artists.  Late last year the label released its first compilation, Everything, and to inspire you to check it out further I gathered some music from Modill and Pace One to showcase the album.  Enjoy

:Modill - City Bus:  Modill is made up of an an emcee by the name of Racecar, a drummer/producer who is known as K-Kruz and Thaione Davis.  The music, which makes me recall Mos Def, has all kinds of things packed into it: a little bluesy guitar riff that comes and goes, a subtle beat that drives the song but doesn't overpower the vocals and record pops that keep it from sounding too slick.  Racecar's delivery and lyrical choices are great as well with the highlight being the sheer number of witty and insightful one-liners that are strewn about throughout the track.  Check this out if you are in the mood for something smartly made.

:Pace One - Here We Go:  I love this song.  The fact that it is so completely different than Modill shows that EV Records is working with a diverse group of artists who excel at different hip hop styles.  Subtly is not present in this track, as the music has a huge pounding beat that will stick in your head and the delivery comes off as a smarter version of DMX.  This is raucous and a lot of fun, so go jump in the car now and turn it up as you drive down to the grocery store.
