I'm going to do my best to
avoid rambling on and on about Austin artists here at SOTO since I will soon
be writing for the
Austin Sound, which covers anything related
to the scene in town, but today I need to make an exception for Oh No! Oh
My!. The band, formerly known as the Jolly Rogers, call the
great Dim Mak Records (Klaxons, Pony Up, Mystery Jets, Datarock) home and
they make incredibly catchy indie pop that is about to be made readily
available to the world on an EP in August titled Between The Devil And
The Sea. I highly doubt it has anything on it that you haven't
heard in some way, shape or form, but I guarantee that is has the kind
quality material that you wish would fall into your lap on a consistent
basis. Enjoy.
:Oh
No! Oh My! - The Party Punch:
"Only punches below the neck/Not the pretty face." If you've ever
wondered what a slightly sarcastic pop version of Page France would sound
like then you're in luck because that's essentially what this is.
Though, the way the band accomplishes its high level of charm through a foot
stomping beat and steady hand claps is a lot different than the vocal heavy
tandem of Michael Nau and Whitney McGraw. It obviously works just as
well, as shown by the same magical output that is this gem, but I find the
different approach to be refreshing enough to make this avoid be labeled as
just another solid indie pop number.
I must not have
any of the channels that actually have good artists come on
and perform. All I ever see is huge amounts of crap
that make my head hurt uncontrollably. Anyway, here is
the band performing another ray of sunshine titled Walk
In The Park.
