Before I get to my latest
crush, who just so happen to once again be from Oregon, I want to recommend
Cusack's latest film, 1408. I saw it over the weekend and I was
very satisfied with its level of suspense and how it didn't have to be
achieved through torture porn (Google Eli Roth for more info). On a
related-only-in-mind note, I'm also incredibly satisfied with today's
artist, the Fast Computers, and how they're making great synth pop with what
appears to be effortless zeal. The trio consists of Jennifer Fox,
Peter Dean and Brenna Sheridan, and they just recently released their
16-months in the making debut, Heart Geometry. That's a crazy
long time to make an album, but from the sound of the songs below I'm going
to say it was time well used. Enjoy.

Computers - Sweden Hasn't Changed, You Have:
First of all, the clever title of this track just kills me. Secondly,
the fact that this is so incredibly reminiscent of 80s synth pop does just
as much to slay me as well. Everything from the new wave-esque vocals,
to the slow burning array of synths, to the steady beat that begs your feet
to move, all of it is pure retro bliss. Sure, these three may not be
treading in uncharted territory here, but that's just a minor detail that's
easy to overlook once you hit play.

Computers - Invisibility:
To be honest, outside of one spectacular little detail this is not too
different than the song above. It carries a similar catchy synth-filled
arrangement, and the vocals, while a little more energetic, are still
clearly showing their influences. So what makes this one worth your
time? Hand claps. As soon as you hear them in this they will
make the song so much better since they lighten the mood and allow the band
to charm your ears a bit. So, once your done grooving to the song
above try picking up the pace with this one.
