I didn't review the show, but this weekend I saw the Black Angels play with the Black Keys.  I had a super great time but there were no cameras allowed (even the people suppose to be taking pictures were given trouble) so I didn't bother to do anything more than I am now, which is telling you to catch these two together if possible.  Now, let's talk about Blitzen Trapper, who I thought were a new, breaking artist when I saw them open for the Hold Steady last weekend.  Since that show I have noticed their name everywhere, including Pitchfork who gave their new album, Wild Mountain Nation, an 8.5.  Because of all that I went back and did a bit more research to find that they have been making it right for quite awhile.  Here's hoping the bandwagon's big enough.  Enjoy.

:Blitzen Trapper - Wild Mountain Nation:  Get ready to mark this as your latest favorite retro-enthused anthem since you hold no chance in denying the warm charm that oozes out from its catchy mixture of slide guitars and classic rock style vocals.  I mean, this is so effortlessly good and full of vintage fun that there's even a chance your parents will find themselves flashing back to the 70s.  In fact, I recommend inviting them over for a nice full evening of foot stomping activities set to this gem.

There wasn't much to pick from on Youtube but I guess that's OK since the one video available shows the guys laying it down nicely at PDX Pop Now back in 2005.  I don't know the name of the song, so if you do be sure to speak up in the comments section!

On a grindhouse related side note, I took the time this weekend to view the Warriors and Big Doll House.  The former is a 80s flick that is centered around a gang that is wrongfully accused of killing a gang lord and then are hunted throughout a night by thousands of other gangs.  It was a bit more than campy but it had a really neat comic book style transitions that I believe warrant at least one viewing.  The latter was a women-in-prison themed film that had a bunch of lovely ladies plotting to break out of jail.  Of course, in between all of that there were plenty of exploitive scenes involving nudity, torture, and even some good natured mud wrestling.  If you're looking for something that will give you a few laughs and a peak at Pam Grier's goods then Big Doll House is totally for you.
