Is it just me or do Mondays kind of suck whether you're employed or not?  It's as if I operate fine every other day of the week but once Monday rolls around I can't seem to get it together.  Weird.  Anyway, I need to advise you to go out and see Ocean's 13, since it brings the series back to greatness, and to completely love today's featured artist, The Explorers Club.  The South Carolina sextet are recent additions to the Dead Oceans roster and they have what is shaping up to be a brilliant LP dropping sometime in 2008.  Yeah, that's pretty much an eternity away but I feel these guys are good enough to stick in your head until then.  Plus, you know deep down that you want to be on the bandwagon before it's cool to do so.  Enjoy.

:The Explorers Club - Last Kiss:  Remember the Beach Boys?  Well, these guys have taken their sound and modernized it for their own joyful pleasures.  Sure, that almost sounds negative but I mean it in the most positive of ways.  This is one of those songs where the band's influences feel as if they were taken and sprinkled with charm before being emphatically filled with energy.  I can't say for sure it gets much better than this.

Clearly the guys love to keep it retro and this video of them covering Johnny B. Goode only reaffirms it.  Be sure to stay around for the agile guitarist who pulls off a stellar back flip to conclude the entertaining performance.
