Today is my birthday!  To celebrate my 24th year on this planet, and my first within the snazzy confines of Austin, I have decided to roll out a nice little EP.  The mix has some great, albeit non-birthday related, stuff that I would have liked to of rambled about last week but couldn't because of the move.  In other words, it's a belated celebration elaboration dipped in enthusiasm especially for myself.  Enjoy.

:Neon Horse - Cuckoo A mix without a killer track to kick things off on a site named after such things would just be wrong.  Fortunately, the mysterious lineup behind Neon Horse didn't leave me at a loss for what to put in this spot.  This damn thing is so wildly ridiculous that I can't help but to move spastically whenever I hear its mash up of 80s synth and punk.   Expect to love this.

:Tegan And Sara - The Con:  To be honest, I didn't really pay much attention to the ladies' last effort, but this crafty pop rock number has given me some reason to maybe revisit it.    I love the sense of urgency in the twins' vocal work here since it gives the almost too crisp production a little extra umph.  Plus, this is so close to being featured in a montage of some Disney movie about a teenage girl trying to find herself that it elevates it to an even cooler level.  Sing your heart out, you know you want to.

:White Rabbits - Kid On My Shoulder:  This song is so awesome that it easily justifies why so many people have been flipping out over these guys and their new album, Fort Nightly.  The numerous layers of frenetic and thunderous sounds are amazingly arranged in a way that will probably cause some people's brains to spazz out in a fit of enjoyment and curiosity.  I mean, just how did this group of six musically inclined ninjas manage to sneak up on the world like this?

:Mooney Suzuki - 99%:  One of my favorite experiences at SXSW was seeing this trio completely blow my mind.  It was great to witness such passion so I'm really happy that they finally found a home for their newest album, Have Mercy.  Sure, this song is not their best ever but it is a massive helping of 70s retro goodness, and it does what it's suppose to, which is to slap a smile on your face as you throw your hands into the air and sing loudly.  What more could you possibly want?

:The Cobbs - Say You Never Knew Me:  I'm going to be seeing these guys perform with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club at La Zona Rosa next week and this song has me more than excited.  Their garage-esque throwback sound and their knack for catchy songwriting is sure to make for a great performance live.  I absolutely need to make sure to check out what they were doing back when they were called Ty Cobb.  Anyone have some song recommendations?
