I forgot to mention it, but the
other night I saw Knocked Up and it was one of the best films that
I've seen all year. I highly recommend that you get out and see Judd
Apatow's latest gem as soon as possible. Also, I advise that you check
out today's artist, who just so happens to be a wordsmith who wields an
accordion, whether you like hip hop or not. Sure, that may seem a
little bossy but SoCalled's sophomore effort, Ghettoblaster, has one
of the freshest sounds of 2007, as I'm roughly 196% sure that no one else on
Earth is going to be releasing anything that manages to make old Klezmer
albums groove like this. Plus, it's my birthday week and that should
be enough reason for you to do my bidding. Enjoy.

- (These Are) The Good Old Days:
Since I love you I'm going to give you fair warning that sitting will be
practically impossible once this starts. The mix of accordion
riffs and horns thrown out over an energetic beat make for something oddly
brilliant that you actually want to take the time to explore once your hips
stop shaking. Of course, if the music is of no concern to you there is
a killer hook and numerous witty lines; my favorite is "say what you can
while you're still allowed to."
:SoCalled - You Are Never Alone:
This is rather good but the novelty-esque fun of the song above is
completely absent. In fact, if you prefer your hip hop to be a bit
more streamlined as far as structure goes then you will probably find this
more appealing since you ears aren't met with a barrage of quirky one-liners
over a slightly crazy arrangement. Still, don't be surprised if you
find yourself humming the hook and having an increased amount of respect for
the indie rappers to today.
