Last night I saw Danny Boyle's latest film, Sunshine, and I think it was one of 2007's best.  All of you should really make an effort to get out and see it, especially if you're in the mood for a good ride.  I mean, it was actually intense enough that long after it was over I felt the need to search out some music that had a little bounce to it.  In the end, I wound up stumbling across a brand new Atmosphere track from the Sad Clown Bad Summer #9 EP and it performed well in loosening the cinematic grip that Mr. Boyle had on me.   Now if only I could figure out how Slug and Ant managed to get a song with the same title of the movie in my hands at this very moment.  Though, a clue as to when they decided to perk up their sound would be just as nice.  Enjoy.

:Atmosphere - Sunshine:  I've been listening to these guys for awhile and at no time have they ever sounded so playful.  That isn't to say that I don't like it.  I just can't believe that I'm listening to Ant spit out lines like:  "Sunshine sunshine is fine/I feel it in my skin warming up my mind/Sometimes you have to give in to win/I love the days when it shines."  Hell, even the music's been tamed from it's usual fury with a soft beat and pretty piano work.  I have no idea how this will fly with some of the die hard fans, but as a casual admirer I'm loving every bit of its weirdly positive energy.

Just in case you aren't too familiar with Atmosphere's early work, I give to you a video for the song Trying To Find A Balance.  Clearly, the vibe given off is completely different than the one Sunshine provides.  Which sound do you prefer?  Summertime glee or straight edged underground?
