So, I watched Michael Moore's
latest documentary, Sicko, last night. I currently don't have
any health insurance, but after seeing that piece of work I almost feel as
if I'm better off without it. Now, let's move onto something a bit
more positive in Rilo Kiley and their highly anticipated fourth full length,
Under The Blacklight, which drops on August 21 via Warner Bros
Records. The disc is certainly one of the few that I've been anxiously
awaiting all year and I'm convinced that it's going to be one of my favorite
albums of 2007 despite the fact that Jenny Lewis and Co. seem to be taking
their sound in a completely different direction than what originally made me
love them. Perhaps this is the LP that should have been called More
Adventurous. Enjoy.
:Rilo
Kiley - The Moneymaker:
This isn't what I was expecting. In fact, it's so far from what I
thought it would be that I was initially kind of disappointed. Then,
part by part it began to lodge itself in my head and win me over. The
first thing that hit were the catchy guitars that populate the intro and the
breaks between the verses, after that it was the dance-enthused beat, and
then it was Jenny's sultry pop vocals. I don't know if the process
will be the same for you, but try to give it a few chances if you aren't
into it at first. After all, this still has that same playful charm
that Rilo Kiley has always had, you just have to look a little harder.
I'm sure there
are a few of you who aren't entirely familiar with the
band's very early work, so I decided to share the video for
an incredibly adorable song from the Initial Friendship
EP titled The Frug. Jenny is infinitely
adorable in it, so don't be surprised when you can't stop
watching it.
