In all honestly, I kind of thought that today's post was going to be incredibly awful since my usual routine of writing at some point after midnight, and then publishing as soon as I finish, was going to be offset by work and other scheduled events.  Fortunately, I came to my senses and realized that I should only worry about accomplishing my work related duties, which means that this isn't an incomprehensible load of crap (mostly).  Though, it's not as if you would have noticed anyway since La Cacahouette's experimental shoegaze ways on their recently released debut full length, French For Peanut, are enchanting enough to distract anyone.  Now, excuse me as I run off to work the lovely KLBJ-AM Powerbreakfast.  Enjoy.

:La Cacahouette - Bomb Parts:  This is one intricate, atmospheric piece of work.  The first part sounds like what you would probably expect from an experimental shoegaze band, as it overwhelms your ears with a vast array of sweeping sounds, but the rest of it has incredibly heavy, plodding guitar riffs and a frenetic pace that make it something entirely different.  For some, it might make conjure up unwanted metal related thoughts, but for the rest it should come across as a welcome take on the shoegaze genre.

Here is a video for the song Cocaine Unicorn.  I actually have an mp3 version of the track and I almost shared it, but for some reason I like it even more when I see them perform it.  Perhaps it will have the same effect on you as well.

On a grindhouse related side note, I recently watched Thriller.  The plot centered around a mute girl who learns a bunch of skills (shooting, hand-to-hand combat, driving) so that she exact revenge on the pimp that has been keeping her as a prostitute through a forced addiction to heroine.  It could have been the most amazing revenge flick ever, but instead if was severely limited by action scenes that had so much slow motion in them that you could get up and go to the bathroom twice before they ended.  Also, their was some very graphic sex scenes that show up close penetration in a way that wouldn't even be sexy to the people who like that kind of stuff.  Don't ever watch Thriller.
