Tonight I'm working for a local radio station and I have to help out at an event from 2am until 11am.  Clearly, sleep is out of the equation until after I get home and write my ramble for tomorrow, so don't be surprised if it makes less sense than normal.  At any rate, I still have my wits (mostly) about me today and I really want to share the quirky pop sounds of The Mabuses.  I would like to also share a sizeable amount of information on the band but I can't since they seem to prefer keeping themselves shrouded in mystery.  Still, I do know that they call Magpie Records home and that they have a brand spanking new full length, which is their third, titled Mabused.  Enjoy.

:The Mabuses - Seasider:  "I once thought I was funny/It's no secret I indulged/I once ran out of money/It's no secret I evolved."  I can't get enough of this charming gem.  It makes me want to slap on my iPod and then take a stroll with its thumping drums, catchy guitar riffs and light hearted whistling leading the way and effectively drowning out my awful attempts to sing-a-long.  This is your new favorite song.

:The Mabuses - Mirth:  This isn't necessarily as accessible as the song above, but its still got a sort of easy-to-love quality about it.  I think it's mostly due to how interesting the oddball arrangement sounds when put together with the mix of vocal styles used.  It really makes the little necessary bit of work to figure out exactly what's going on more than worth it.  I recommend getting to know this one with headphones.
