One of things that I hate to
see happen to an artist is when they achieve a nice amount of success only
to subsequently sign to a major label and never release anything good ever
again. I can't say for sure if Lovedrug would have had the same fate
because after they signed to the troubled Columbia Records they never even
got to release anything, and instead are back with The Militia Group.
As you would expect the turmoil, that the band had to deal with throughout
the incredibly long period of time (about 3 years) that it took to to clear
up their label issues, gave them a sizeable amount of emotion to pour into
their new album, Everything Starts Where It Ends. The disc
doesn't arrive until March 6 but the Everything Starts EP is
available now for your consumption.

- Ghost By Your Side:
Smart is one of the words that I see commonly associated with
Lovedrug and I think that this song is a good indicator as to why it is used
so often to describe them. Along with Michael Shepard's hearty vocals
the guys have taken their pop sensibility and used the both of them to
create something that still feels like a slick rock & roll track. I
think you will be hard pressed to find another band making pop songs that
inspire you to strike a power stance in your living room.
:Lovedrug - Casino Clouds:
I really like the versatility that Lovedrug shows in this song. It
wouldn't be too difficult for the band to make every song sound like it
belongs in an arena but here they take a minute to slow down and it shows
off a different style. Be sure to watch out for the dangerously catchy
lyrics and the guitar-solo type break towards the end of the song that is
obviously there to let you know that no matter what style the band uses,
they still rock harder than you and me put together.
PS - While the songs I picked are on both the EP and the LP I would still
pick up the former as it has a cover of Nirvana's Heart Shaped Box
and a couple of other enjoyable tracks.
