As promised, I am continuing
the Saddle Creek love today with some ramblings about Bright Eyes and the
EP, Four Winds, that will proceed Cassadaga, Conor Oberst's
first full length since 2005. I don't know what the deal is but the
first few months of 2007 are turning out to be jammed packed with all kinds
of quality stuff, so if Conor rolls out something that is even remotely
close to the brilliance of I'm Wide Awake It's Morning then my head
will probably explode. Actually, since M. Ward, Janet Weiss, David
Rawlings and Gillian Welch all contribute on the album there is an
overwhelmingly good chance that come April 10 my family will be forced to
make funeral arrangements, here's hoping I at least make it past when the EP
drops on March 6.
:Bright
Eyes - Tourist Traps:
This song is from the Four Winds EP and it is one of the five
b-sides that come along with the title track, which is the first single from
the new full length. A lot of people are saying that this really seems
like something M. Ward would do and while I would agree with that I still
think that anything Conor does takes on a sound of it's own. Speaking
of sound, things in this are kept simple, quiet, and as somber as ever, what
more could you ask for from a b-side that comes from one of the better
songwriters around?
:Bright Eyes - Endless Entertainment:
I will warn you now that this song will try to fool you into thinking it's
something you should happily sing-a-long too because of it's pop sound and
catchy lyrics, but at closer look you will discover lyrics like "My smile is
in sad shape" and "I kind of caught the blues." I should have known
that Conor would eventually figure out a way to trick the masses into loving
him. Also, can anyone confirm if this is actually on Cassadaga?
I couldn't find a solid Yes or No anywhere.
