Well my friends it would appear that we have reached hump day!  I am normally not this enthusiastic about it but given that I should be receiving my laptop in the mail at anytime I figured it was a cause for excitement.  Normal people would probably share some raucous arena anthem in this sort of situation but since my mind works in awkward ways I would rather share with you a lovely singer/songwriter who goes by the name of Nicole Atkins.  She is on the verge of releasing her debut full length and to get everyone excited she has released an EP titled Bleeding Diamonds.  Nicole's folk-pop sound is quite enjoyable so if you feel like jumping on a bandwagon (she was named one of Rolling Stone's Top Ten Artists To Look For In 2007) then I believe you have found one.

:Nicole Atkins - Snowshakes:  I very much love how Nicole manages to sound playful in this song despite the slightly somber vibe that it gives off with lyrics like "Sometimes the drugs don't keep you going."  On the other hand the playfulness that I enjoy so much from the song could totally be from the lightly done music that accompanies her vocals, who can tell such things apart in songs this good?

:Nicole Atkins - Carouselle:  If you have ever wondered what Feist and Jenny Lewis would sound like crammed together then I believe this is the song for you.  The music is probably more along the lines of something that Feist would do, as it is piano driven and as drenched in pop as it could be, whereas the vocals are incredibly similar to something that you would undoubtedly hear from Jenny Lewis.  It certainly is an interesting combination and I think you should check it out right now.
