In all honesty I hate the fact
that I am writing about the Arcade Fire today. Sure, the band's
sophomore effort, Neon Bible, is one of the albums that I am looking
forward to the most this year but just about everyone and their mother have
posted up the songs I have for you today. On the other hand I am faced
with the same situation that I had with The Good The Bad & The Queen
yesterday; the music is just too good for me not to throw out some comments.
March is lining up to be a great month as Neon Bible will drop on on
the 6th via Merge Records and SXSW is the very next week. Enjoy the
music and feel free to breathe a sigh of relief once you realize that the
band appears to be on track to make something that at least matches the
brilliance of Funeral.
:Arcade
Fire - Black Wave, Bad Vibrations:
This is a beautiful song and if you have been thinking that the new
disc might disappoint when compared to Funeral than I believe this
will pretty much make you forget all such thoughts. The first 1:40 of
the song certainly makes for an interesting listen as it sounds more indie
pop than anything I would ever expect to hear from the band, but of course
right when you scrunch up your face because of what you are hearing the band
bursts into that beautiful old familiar sound that everyone knows so well.
March 6 is too far away.
:Arcade Fire - Black Mirror:
You won't find anything even remotely similar to the first part of
Black Wave, Bad Vibrations in this song because the entire thing sounds
like the band tried to make it the darkest song in all of its catalog.
For me, Win Butler and his amazing voice are generally the highlight of
every song but in Black Mirror I keep finding myself most impressed
by the haunting environment that the band created around his voice. I
repeat, March 6 is too far away.
