I think the band I have today
may possibly contain the weirdest combination of artists ever. The
group is called Ruby Isle and it is made up of world renown piano rocker
Mark Mallman, I Am The World Trade Center's Dan Geller and a punk/prog rock
drummer by the name of Aaron Lemay. Now I am still not sure what I was
expecting to hear after I read the different components of this band but I
don't think that synthed-out 80s dance pop was even a choice that was
floating around in my head. Perhaps I was thrown off by the the fact
that Mark has a 52.4 hour long song in his repertoire! Anyhow, the
trio's debut EP, Into The Black, drops on March 13 and they are
expected to be out and about during SXSW, where one of the shows is marked
as their "first."
:Ruby Isle - Into The Black:
With today being the day after Valentine's Day I don't believe that I could
have come across a better song to post up, and it's all because of the line
"I never came down from you." This is as slick as it gets; the steady
beat with the light synth work accompanying it moves the song along at a
nice pace, the vocals aren't overly 80s and it inspires you to sing-a-long
like nobody's business. Download and feel free to wear a big smile as
you listen.
:Ruby Isle - Atom Bomb:
Turn off your brain and get ready to bust a move with this one. The
synth is turned up as high as it will go, the drumming is frantic and the
rest of it just drips with 80s nostalgia. I really like how this track
is quite a bit different than Into The Black and I hope that it is
just a small sample of the Ruby Isle spectrum. Now, commence the
jiggling!
