Crohn's disease sounds pretty
awful but I can't imagine what it would be like to be misdiagnosed with it.
Vince Griffin, the creative force behind Bear Colony, had exactly that
happen to him in 2005 but instead of breaking down into a pile a mush like I
would have, he poured the entire experience into what has since become his
group's debut album for Esperanza Plantation. The aptly titled We
Came Here To Die was not only spearheaded by Vince though, as Brooks
Tipton (Unwed Sailor), Adam Putman, Matthew Putman (Lovedrug), Matthew
Depper (Lovedrug), Chase Pagan and Kyle Smith all helped in the process of
making the album happen and now make up the nucleus of the Bear Colony.
It's good music made by good people. Enjoy.
:Bear Colony - Hymnal (A Declaration Of Loss):
With seven people in the band I think it really allows Bear Colony to have a
lush sound. The drumming drives the song along with a nice steady
pace, the guitar work is crafty and there is some electronic stuff going on
that further pushes it into the realm of indie pop. I really like it
and I think you will too.
:Bear Colony - Sharks:
Since the group has two former members of Lovedrug it isn't too surprising
that this sounds like that band, but with Bear Colony's pop sensibility
thrown in for kicks. It's good music but the lyrics are where this
song kills me, especially the chorus: "They'll treat you like your dead/Just
to get inside your head." Vince would know, so listen and learn.
