No video this
week. Instead I want to point out a cool little event
in town that's going on later today. I think it should
be a good time all around, so if your afternoon is free you
should go and have the time of your life.

- Episode 37:
This week I have new music from Pale Young Gentleman, the
Mars Volta, Black Mountain, the Shones, the Presets and
Child Ballads. I also have an assortment of news and
notes and a comment or two on EMI's recent RIAA funding
reduction. Enjoy.

On a show
related side note, I saw Jose Gonzalez with Cass McCombs at
a sold out Parish a couple of nights ago.
Despite the fact that he had a nice sized crowd during his
set I mostly felt sorry for Cass. About 75% of the
people who had shown up early spent just about every moment
of his 45 minute set actively chatting amongst themselves
and not paying any attention whatsoever. I even saw
people at the very front of the stage yapping away, which is
not only sad, but incredibly rude. Fortunately though,
the kids did actually manage to calm a bit as the set was
coming to a close, and given how strong Cass finished I'm
going to say that he noticed and took advantage.
Hopefully the next time that he rolls through town I won't
have to deal a bunch talkers drowning out the guy's amazing
voice.
Speaking of the crowd, while they mostly had no respect for
Cass they did show the utmost amount when it came to Jose.
Once the guy stepped on the stage the entire house shut
their mouths and stared at the stage for the hour that he
played. As for Jose, he was mind boggling good.
It was my first time seeing him, so I wasn't exactly sure
what to expect since sometimes singer/songwriters are just
flat out boring on stage. But, not this guy. He
honestly impressed me to no end with how commanding and
enthralling that he manages to be pretty much all on his
own. If you only see one more show this year then you
have to make sure that it's Jose Gonzalez.
