Seriously, if you're in the
Austin area then you have to make sure that you get your ass out to
this tomorrow. I'll be there spinning
some tunes with other bloggers in between the sets of the 13 bands that will
be playing, and there will be free beer and free food. It's
like a paradise for indie kids, so you can't miss it! Now, allow me to
ramble about Oakley Hall. I've never really taken the time to explore
their back catalog much, which means I can't say I have any sort of
expectations for their upcoming Merge effort, I'll Follow You, but I
can for sure point out that after an insanely hectic week they managed to
effortlessly and instantly calm my brain. I figured a few of you out
there could also use such a commanding sound to get your head straight for
the weekend. Enjoy.

Hall - No Dreams:
There's so much going on here that you will want to stop what your doing and
examine each part of it. The music, which is an energetic mix of
country and indie rock, is particularly deserving of close attention, but
for me the real treat in the song is the dual use of Jesse Barnes and Rachel
Fox's vocals. When they are gliding along and pushing out lines like: "Are
you driving a big truck/Shifting gears on a downhill slope " I can't help
but soak in every word. This is just good rock music.
Despite my
massive ignorance to all things Oakley Hall, I have seen
quite a few comments here and there that describe the band
has rather good in a live setting. This video of the
band performing Volume Rambler doesn't do much to
dispute those claims. Should I make an effort to see
them at some point in the future?
