Alright, I have a few things I want to relay to you.

First up, as you may have already noticed, I changed the background to black.  I've been feeling the urge to do so for awhile now, but it wasn't until I read an article on how much electricity can be saved if websites use darker colors in their design that I finally sat down and did it.  I also added a film tab to the menu.  The section probably won't be ready for another month or two, so don't feel like you need to check it constantly.  I'll let you know when it's ready to be loved.

As for the fancy cassette design, it's for another site that I currently contribute at.  Here is all you need to know straight from them.

In celebration of our first anniversary, Austin Sound presents the first annual Austin Sound Off Festival. On Saturday, September 1, some of our favorite local bands (see below for the full 13 band line-up) will take over the two stages of the Scoot Inn for an all day party starting at 3:00pm with free food and some free beer (better get there early!) to benefit the website. In addition to a great day of live music, local music bloggers from Covert Curiosity, Party Ends, Side One: Track One, Cubik Musik, and the Austinist will be spinning tunes between sets on the outside stage! Cover is only $5 for the full day, or you can RSVP with our friends over at Do512 for $3 entry. So come out and help us celebrate the great bands and fans that make Austin the live music capital of the world!

Outside Stage:
11:00pm-12:00am: Golden Bear
10:00-11:00pm: Peel
8:45-9:30pm: Brazos
7:30-8:15pm: Black Before Red
6:15-7:00pm: The Black
5:00-5:45pm: Sunset
4:00-4:45pm: Charles Potts Magic Windmill Band

Inside Stage:
12:00-1:00am: Leatherbag
9:30-10:15pm: Transmography
8:15-9:00pm: Benko
7:00-7:45pm: Virgin of the Birds
5:45-6:30pm: The Narrow Escapes
4:30-5:15pm: Tullie

Clearly, it's going to be one hell of a day full of great music and good times.  I fully expect you to be there whether you live in the area or not.  I mean, I did give you a whopping nine day notice so it's not like you have an excuse to miss it.

I didn't realize it until yesterday, but lately there's been a slight absence of Swedish pop here at SOTO.  I'm pretty sure it wasn't a conscious decision, as I love just about everything that comes out of that country, so my guess is that there just hasn't been anything that has immediately jumped out at me.  In any case, the country's (Or is it genre?) presence is coming back full force today with the assistance of Penny Century, an Ostersund-based group with a nifty sound.  They've already released four EPs in their history and now they've signed to Letterbox Records so that they can get their new effort, Between A Hundred Lies, to all the good boys and girls of the world.  Expect to see and hear more about this sextet for a long time to come.  Enjoy.

:Penny Century - Nothing Burns Like Bridges:  For a song that has a ton of things going on at one time it's rather neat how it doesn't feel cluttered in the least bit.  I think the reason for such a thing is more than likely because of the way that the myriad of instruments and the girl/boy vocal tandem emphasize each other instead of sounding as if they're trying to outdo one another.  Though, it could simply be due to how incredibly catchy it is.  Either way, the gem has me more than interested to hear all of their new LP and every single one of those EPs.  Who wants to send them my way?

I hate to just give you the video for the song above, but I figured it was worth a look since it actually manages to make them look as sugary sweet as they sound.  Plus, there wasn't anything else available on Youtube.  I blame the President.
